  I have made several attempts to respond in kind, but ended up throwing every one of them away since I could not write her without sounding bitter and sarcastic. That'll just play into her game of painting me as the one in the wrong. Quite honestly, I haven't the time or energy to deal with her and what she thinks right now. My brother rang me the other day and informed me that she was ill, but I live quite a distance away from her and I'm not going to see her if my appearance offends her.

  I've known Bolivians, Chileans, and Peruvians who use that term (Castellano). And in Spain of course they use that. I think Columbia is the only country in South America to use 'Español'.

  For what it's worth, I've always noticed that the English speaking congregations in the US tended to be more draconian in outlook. I only stayed there for six months, but if you wanted to throw a good party, invite the Spanish speaking members (They always gave me a strange look when I referred to their 'Español' as 'Castellano', the South American term for Spanish). It can be cultural differences as well as the fact that many have larger families and it makes sense that they would look for more ways to placate their brood.

  Who has killed more Jehovah's Witnesses....Hitler...or the Governing Body of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society?

  another thread on this site is discussing the number of jehovah's witnesses killed in nazi germany ( 2000-2500), and a couple of threads have discussed the high incidence of suicide among jehovah's witnesses.

  (many victims of rape, child molesting, or cruel judicial actims).

  it occured to me with over seven million jws, it is likely the governing body probably has greater blood guilt than even adolf hitler.. what do you think?

  Bringing Hitler into it just works to impose an immediate bias even before the question is asked. For me, Hitler and the Nazis are an overused analogy, conveniently invoked to demonise an opponent or opposing political movement.

  I've never understood how the Witnesses could have appealed to such a man. From what I heard, it was his mother's deathbed wish for him to convert. If that's truly the case, then guilt over his mother isn't too solid of a foundation to build faith. Look for him to fade eventually.

  elder-schmelder - I saw your post. Sorry you have to deal with such insensitivity too.
  What is painfully obvious is that these breakdowns of family relationships are the rule
  and not the exception in this religion. I was attending meetings and hoping to reverse
  my disfellowshipping for reasons on convenience, but now I'm seriously reconsidering it.
  This is simply too high a price to regain something that is broken anyway. I'll never be
  looked at the same.
  
  dreamgolfer - I don't know whether your question about my location is sincere or not. If
  you equated 'Malvinas' with 'Falklands', then it's nearly impossible for you to not know the
  background regarding the two terms. If I use the word 'Malvinas', then it's obvious whose
  side I am on and unlikely that I would live there. If you want to know my 'location', look beyond
  the 'Las Malvinas' portion of my alias to the last word of 'Argentinas'.
  
  mind blown - My mother indeed has a strong and abrasive personality. Her Irish heart is strong-
  willed and much of my upbringing has been deeply regimented. She wanted to make missionaries
  out of all of her children, so she made sure that we were sent to exclusive schools to learn
  different languages. I can speak fluently in four. So to turn all these years of her strong
  determination and leave is not going down well with her.
  
  Botzwana - Last November I got married to a fellow in the congregation. After a week I left him
  when I knew I had made a mistake and didn't want this life for myself. My estranged husband took
  this hard and has stopped going to meetings and has hit the bottle pretty badly. Naturally everyone
  blames me for this turn of events, and my mother is all too eager to join in on the condemnation.
  I regret hurting him, but much like my baptism, I was pushed into marrying him and was doing what
  I thought everyone wanted me to do. He was a kind man and nothing was wrong with him, but
  I knew I couldn't live as a Witness and staying married to him would have brought me into
  many conflicts.
